Embracing the Abstract

Image
Embracing Spontaneity I created an abstract painting that was a delightful departure from my usual style. I was inspired by videos on abstract art and decided to let go of my plans and let my instincts guide me. I used leftover paint, and each stroke was a journey of discovery. The result was a vibrant canvas that invites interpretation and evokes joy.  In the future, I am excited to explore more abstract techniques and embrace spontaneity in my creative process. I challenge you to explore your own creativity and see what unfolds. How do you express your creativity?

From Inspiration to Creation:

My Journey with Reference Photos in Painting For me, painting is not just about putting brush to canvas; it's a journey of exploration and self-expression. Sometimes, that journey begins with a simple reference photo. I often find myself browsing online, scrolling through images of landscapes and natural scenery. These photos serve as a source of inspiration, sparking ideas and igniting my creative imagination. Yet, I never approach them as templates to be copied. Instead, I use them as a starting point—a springboard for my own unique interpretation. When I sit down to paint, I let the image guide me, drawing from its composition, colors, and mood. But as I work, I allow myself the freedom to deviate, to inject my own style and perspective into the piece. The result is a painting that is uniquely mine—a blend of inspiration and personal expression. Recently, I've been contemplating taking my artistry outdoors, to paint en plein air. The idea of capturing the beauty of nature ...

Abstract Canyon Sky

Image
Sunrise Over the Canyon     This abstract painting captures the radiant energy of a sunrise spilling light over a canyon below. Soft, blended hues of yellow, blue, and soft pink swirl together, with a few white puffy clouds, mimicking the warmth and brilliance of the rising sun as it breaks through the horizon. The canyon, painted with earthy tones of brown, red, and deep purple, lies beneath, its rugged landscape softened by the morning light. The layers of color blend seamlessly, creating a dreamlike transition from the glowing sky to the peaceful canyon. The painting evokes the feeling of new beginnings, the promise of a fresh day, and the beauty found in nature’s quiet moments.

Finding Inspiration in leftover paint

A Journey of Creative Discovery One of my favorite artistic rituals is taking leftover paint from previous sessions and blending it onto a fresh canvas. This simple act not only helps me make the most of my materials, it also sparks the first flickers of inspiration for what might become my next masterpiece. As I spread the paint across the canvas, I’m mesmerized by the interplay of colors and textures. Each stroke leads me deeper into a journey of creative exploration. I never quite know where it will go, but that’s part of the magic. With every movement of the brush, new possibilities unfold, guiding me intuitively toward a new idea. There’s something incredibly freeing about this process, letting go of perfection, of expectations, of plans. I allow my creativity to flow organically, and in doing so, I feel a deep sense of liberation. In those moments, it’s as if the brush becomes an extension of my inner world, expressing what words often cannot. Some of my most memorabl...

Exploring Emotions Through Art

Image
A Journey of Self-Expression In a world that often feels rushed and overwhelming, I’ve come to cherish the quiet, sacred spaces where I can reconnect with myself. Journaling has always been one of those spaces, a refuge I first discovered as a young girl, pen in hand, heart wide open. Over the years, it’s helped me navigate love, loss, motherhood, reinvention, and healing. But as my heart has grown through seasons of change, another form of self-expression has gently taken root and flourished: painting. Painting, for me, isn’t about perfection or even planning, it’s about feeling. It’s become a powerful extension of my journal, a visual language that captures what sometimes feels too raw or layered for words alone. Whether I’m experimenting with watercolor or building up textures in mixed media, each brushstroke carries pieces of my story, grief, hope, strength, surrender. One painting, in particular, emerged after a heartbreak that shook the foundation of a six-year relationship. The ...

Brushes and Beats: Navigating Life's Emotions Through Art and Music

The Healing Power of Art and Music Life is a journey of twists and turns, highs and lows, each moment shaped by emotions we often can’t quite explain. In times of uncertainty or emotional heaviness, I’ve found solace in a simple yet powerful ritual: a canvas, a favorite playlist, and the freedom to create. When my heart feels heavy or my thoughts tangled, I turn to art. It’s a familiar refuge, a quiet space where I can process what words often fail to express. It always begins with the music. I choose a soundtrack intuitively, letting my mood guide the selection. The melodies become the emotional landscape for what’s about to unfold on the canvas. As the first notes fill the room, I pick up my brush. Each stroke is a conversation between the music and my emotions, a visual echo of what’s stirring within. The act of painting pulls me into the present moment, where reality and imagination intertwine. I lose track of time, lost in the rhythm of color, movement, and sound. The music leads ...

The Serenity of Water

Image
Nature's Calming Symphony Water has always been a sanctuary for me, from my childhood summers spent at Lake Meade to the mesmerizing rivers of Colorado. Even my first encounter with the ocean in Malibu left me in awe of its soothing rhythm. There is something inherently calming about water, whether it's the sound of waves crashing or the sight of a tranquil lake. In a hectic world, water serves as a reminder to slow down and appreciate life's simple beauty. Whether it's taking a leisurely stroll along the beach or simply listening to the gentle patter of rain against the window, water always brings peace to my soul. One of my most cherished memories is the first time I encountered the ocean at 35 during a trip to Malibu. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was like music to my ears, and the sight of endless blue stretching out before me left me in awe. Water has a special place in my heart—a source of tranquility and solace in a busy world. Its gentle rhyt...
