Exploring Mixed-Media Painting


  A New Creative Adventure

Over the weekend, I had a great time exploring mixed-media painting. I was inspired after finding a stash of paper craft supplies and watching some YouTube tutorials on mixed-media art. This experience allowed me to step outside my usual landscape paintings and get creative with different textures, colors, and elements. It was a freeing process that really let my imagination run wild.

Here's a glimpse into my mixed-media adventure:

First, I gathered an array of supplies, including:

- Acrylic paints

- Scrapbook paper

- Mod Podge

- Stamps and ink pads

- Various brushes and sponges

- Stencils

 Techniques I Explored

Layering: I started with a base layer of acrylic paint, then added pieces of scrapbook paper and tissue paper to create depth and texture. 

Stamping and Stenciling: These techniques added intricate patterns and designs, enhancing the overall composition.

The Creative Process

The beauty of mixed-media painting lies in its unpredictability. I didn't have a set plan; instead, I let the materials guide me. Each layer added a new dimension, and I found myself immersed in the process, exploring new possibilities with each stroke and application.

Final Thoughts

This experience was a delightful departure from my usual artistic routine. Mixed-media painting opened up a new world of creativity, where the possibilities are endless. I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom it offered and the chance to experiment with different materials and techniques.

I think I may have found my next favorite medium!

Watercolor Weekend

This past weekend I enjoyed playing more with watercolors.  There is so much more to using watercolor than you really think.  I watched a view videos' and then tried to do what I learned after watching them. I'm not sure I like this one or that I'm finished with it but it's not bad, almost on the side of abstract. I love my fat little birdies!  These guys were fun to do.  This was a wet on wet technique.  I really like how it came out and it was fun the more the paint did its own thing as it spread throughout the water. Now these flowers were super easy and fun to do, again using the wet on wet technique but this time only placing the water in certain spots so that the flowers would be created with the water.
