Loose Watercolor

 Loose watercolor is when you don't paint exactly what you see and intentionally leave out details.  Loose painting is also known as painterly.  It is a style that is more expressive and about feeling than detail.  I've started to play around with this style and I think I really like it.  Watercolor is hard to control and loose watercolor is out of control sort of, I can wrap my head around it little bit easier than to try to be so controlled and precise with watercolor.

I'm loving how easy and pretty these flower came out!  

I learned three different type of roses to do.  I like the 1st one and 2nd one the best.


I blurred the background and then added the tree.  I like the background, I still need to work on the tree some but I think the idea is cool!

  The Star on the Mountain was first lighted in 1940 by the El Paso Electric Company and became a Christmas tradition for many El Pasoans. For fifty years the star was only lighted during the Christmas season.   In 1979 the star was illuminated every night for 444 nights in honor of the American hostages being held in Iran. It also shone every night from the Christmas season 1990 to Aug. 21, 1991 until the last Fort Bliss soldier returned from the first Persian Gulf war. In 1993, through a Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce and El Paso Electric Co. joint project, the star became a nightly feature in El Paso’s skyline. The project now lets El Pasoans sponsor the star to be lighted in a loved one’s honor or for special occasions. The star was renovated in 2007 and now includes a remote system to turn the star on. The old way required going up the mountain and turning the star on manually.

Explored different techniques

 In the beginning I started to seek out different methods of painting with different tools, like every day household items from tracing paper, to a paper towel. I enjoy being creative and finding other things or ways of doing something is so much fun. For this one I took a coloring page from one of my coloring books.  I took a pencil and scratched the pencil over over the back side of the coloring page.  Then I put in on the canvas board and with the pencil side down and then I traced the picture. After I that I outlined the drawing with black paint to have outlines and then I painted it with a brush and paints instead of treating it like a coloring page with markers or pencils. It took a little time to do but it was fun and it made a cute painting. This one was so much fun!
