What motivates you to keep creating even when not selling?

My sales have slowed down lately.  I had been averaging 2 paintings a month.  This month is almost over and I've only sold one and its was a commissioned piece. It does bring me down a little bit, I'd love to sell all of my paintings and have others enjoy them and I'd also benefit from the money right now with having to pay the bills from my knee surgery. I know things will always turn out how they need to be.  I know that my sales will be pick up soon.  Times are hard on everyone right now with the world so upside down at times.  I keep painting though, I have found a way to express myself on a canvas with the beauty I see around me.  I love looking out the window on a drive and looking at the clouds how they are shaped or the colors in the sky and how they blend from one color to the next. I get inspired by what I see around me and then I get excited to try to paint what I saw in that moment.  Being creative is important to me and keeps me balanced. I find ways to stay c

Teaching

I'm looking forward to teaching a small class on how to paint.  It is going to be fun!  I need to figure out what I will be teaching to paint but I have a little time to figure that out.  I will be doing the first on May 23rd. I will post later on what I choose to paint and show you the sample painting.

More Watercolor-Landscape & Flowers

With recovering from knee surgery its been hard to sit and paint at my big easel and elevate my leg and ice my knee so I've been learning more and more about watercolor until I can get back to painting my landscapes with acrylic.  watercolor landscape I'm really loving watercolor flowers.   This little guy didn't come out too bad either.

Palette Knife painting

Image
I had knee surgery two weeks ago so I haven't had a moment to catch up on my blog but I have been able to play a little.  These two are added to my New Mexico series. They both are on 9x12 watercolor paper, I used a palette knife to give it the texture.  I was fun to play with and the textured look is really cool!  I plan on exploring this technique a little more.

Albuquerque, NM

Image
This one was a fun new technique I learned with layering paint.  It was a fun abstract to do. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta® Powered by ExxonMobil, the world’s largest hot air balloon festival, takes place each October, when you’ll see hundreds of balloons in the sky at a time. This magical hot air balloon festival is considered to be the most photographed event in the world, drawing a huge international crowd of balloonists and spectators.  The one-of-a-kind character of Albuquerque is the result of many different forces, perhaps none as important as the centuries of history that have shaped the city. Starting with the Native Americans who have lived here for thousands of years, and continuing through Albuquerque's official founding in 1706, the city has grown into a multicultural metropolis of nearly a million people. While the modern city of Albuquerque is a center of high-tech industry and research, it retains vital connections to the past, such as the ancient

El Paso, TX

Image
The Star on the Mountain was first lighted in 1940 by the El Paso Electric Company and became a Christmas tradition for many El Pasoans. For fifty years the star was only lighted during the Christmas season.   In 1979 the star was illuminated every night for 444 nights in honor of the American hostages being held in Iran. It also shone every night from the Christmas season 1990 to Aug. 21, 1991 until the last Fort Bliss soldier returned from the first Persian Gulf war. In 1993, through a Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce and El Paso Electric Co. joint project, the star became a nightly feature in El Paso’s skyline. The project now lets El Pasoans sponsor the star to be lighted in a loved one’s honor or for special occasions. The star was renovated in 2007 and now includes a remote system to turn the star on. The old way required going up the mountain and turning the star on manually.

Fort Davis, TX

Image
Fort Davis Texas- A key post in the defense system of western Texas, Fort Davis played a major role in the history of the Southwest. From 1854 until 1891, troops stationed at the post protected emigrants, freighters, mail coaches, and travelers on the San Antonio-El Paso Road hoping to reach the gold fields of California. Today, Fort Davis is considered one of the best remaining examples of a frontier military post in the American Southwest. It is a vivid reminder of the significant role played by the military in the settlement and development of the western frontier. Named for Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, the fort was first garrisoned by Lieutenant Colonel Washington Seawell and six companies of the Eighth U.S. Infantry. The post was located in a box canyon near Limpia Creek on the eastern side of the Davis Mountains--where wood, water, and grass were plentiful. From 1854 to 1861 , troops of the Eighth Infantry spent much of their time in the field pursuing Comanches, Kiowas, an

I have decided that I would like to paint a landscape from the different cities that I've lived in over the years.  I was born in El Paso TX and then when I was 10 years old we moved to Chaparral NM which is just 10 miles outside of El Paso TX.  After I was married we moved to Albuquerque NM then moved on the other side of the mountain from Albuquerque to Sandia Park NM.  After my first divorce the kids and I moved back home to El Paso TX and then we moved to Fort Davis TX to give my ex another chance.  Second marriage lead to Flagstaff AZ and the second divorce happened and the kids and I lived in Flagstaff until I met my finance where we live in Parks AZ outside of Flagstaff AZ.  I moved around quite a bit in just three states. Each place offered its beauty all around me.  I hope to capture the beauty from my memories in my paintings.
