Creativity on Paper

Image
++ I recently played around with a few sheets of canvas paper instead of painting on a stretched canvas. It was a little different but it was nice too.  I was impressed with how thick and strong the paper was and that didn't really curl up while painting on it or even when it dried either.  The paintings below were very fun to work on.  I took all the left over paint on my palette from another painting that I had just finished on a stretched canvas and just began using my brush and making little marks and short strokes with my brush.  Before too long I had a flow and enjoying just seeing what kind of marks I could make on the paper with the type of brush I was using at the time.  It didn't take too long before the marks started to look like a painting....like flowers.  I enjoyed the fun and freedom of not having a plan and just using left over colors and making marks on the paper to develop these paintings that are perfect just as is and ready to be ...

A commissioned piece

Image
A few weeks ago a co-worker came to me and asked if I would paint a purple orchid and a blue butterfly for her mom.  She wanted to give it to her mom who misses her mom.  The purple orchid is for Brynn's mom that loves purple orchids and then the blue butterfly is for her grandmother.  Brynn wants to help her mom feel better.  I hope she likes the painting and that it will help her mom smile more often.

Chaparral, NM

Image
Chaparral is a town in New Mexico with a population of 14,098. Chaparral is in Doña Ana County. Living in Chaparral offers residents a suburban rural mix feel and most residents own their homes. It is about 10 miles outside of El Paso TX.  Las Cruces NM is near by, and White Sands. This painting holds a very special place in my heart.  It reminds me so much of back home, living in Chaparral NM.  I miss going in the summer with my kids, but there isn't anything to go back to.  After my dad passed in October of 2015 we sold the property and mom and stepdad Larry moved to  Eager AZ.  I have a ton of memories of growing up with my little brother at Chaparral so I cherish them evetime I give myself a moment to recall and reflect on the past.

Lunch time creative moment

Image
The other day I put my little tiny set of watercolors and a brush in my bag for work. I had decided that instead of messing around on my phone or browsing online on the computer while I sat and ate my lunch I would have a creative moment.  Its my lunch hour so I can do whatever I want to do during it so why not a little painting! I really enjoyed doing that, taking a moment to be creative was just what I needed that day. It helped me feel refreshed and ready to begin my work day again after lunch.
