Teaching my first class

Image
I taught at our first sip and paint at work.  It also was my first time teaching what I love to do.  It was so much fun!   The group was small and cozy but perfect!  Each of them shared their own story of being an artist as well. One likes to use oils, one enjoys watercolor and painting faces and the other one enjoys painting with her daughter and doing murals together. Each of these are so different. One shows impressionism. One shows abstract and whimsical and One shows detailed and photo like It really was fun and a success, everyone enjoyed themselves. This is the original painting that I made to display. (14x16) Here is the 1st one and my 2nd one. Both very different The second time painting this one came out very different.  Its 11x14.  I love the difference that is shown. I'm looking forward to the next one in July!

Moodscapes

Image
I love spending time in my journal expressing my feelings and working through different emotions or moods.  I have found that I can do that also through painting.  I consider these paintings to be a little expressive in emotions or moods.  What do you see or how do they make you feel?

Gifted this one

My daughter put on the most amazing and fun 50th birthday party for me this past weekend!  It was so much fun! I will never doubt that I'm loved. My party theme was based off of my love of Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac.  We had people dress up either in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, most of the girls participated.  My oldest loves to entertain, she gets so worked up though for everything to be perfect.  She did so much and it was a hit! To thank her and her fiancé Natalie for working so hard at giving me lots of memories for my 50th birthday I gifted them this painting.  They in Phoenix so its perfect and loved how bright the sky looked with the cactus.  Its one of my favorites and I'm so happy it will be hanging in their house.

New Collection

Image
The colors in this skyscape make a happy impression. (hopeful, inspiring, daydreamer) Tree and leaves are reflecting the end of the day at sunset. (Reflective gracefulness) This a pop of color in a day that looks ordinary. (Encouraging fresh new start) Journal entry: Sunday May 7, 2023 at 7:00 a.m. I woke up this morning thinking of painting. I then came up with the idea of a new collection of small 10x10 paintings that I will call "little moments" inspired by the two little paintings I did yesterday.  I'm going to name them the feeling I feel at the moment when I look at them. I'm going to use the other 10x10 canvas to paint a few more moments, little landscapes that I hope will take you to a nice calm, maybe even and insightful reveling moment to bring peach and inspiration or even refresh and revive you to take a deep breath and move onto the next moment.  to be ready for the next moment, whatever it may bring to you.

A few favorite artist quotes.

Teaching 1st Sip and Paint

Image
I'm super excited to be teaching the first sip and paint at Continental Country Club.  We will do them monthly and my best friend/co-worker will be teaching also.  We will alternate each one.  We only have 20 spots open for each class. For weeks now I've been going back and forth on figuring out what I would teach to paint.  This weekend I figured it out! I will be painting a familiar sight for anyone that lives in the Flagstaff AZ area. A Summer time view of The San Francisco Peaks when all the little yellow flowers are sprinkled all over the place. It's the 8th of May I need to hurry up and write up the instruction and make sure I have all the supplies ready!

Why do I create Art?

I create art for others and in turn it is for me too.  I love to be creative it brings me joy.  I want to share with others and help bring joy to them as well so its through my art that I can do that.  Art has also helped keep my balanced when life can get a little a crazy or things around me turn upside down.  Art is an expression that allows me to let go and create.   I try to be creative daily, sometimes I can and others I can't.  If I go too long without having a moment to be creative then I get a little stressed and unsettled. Its at that point that I know I need a little time to be creative.  At times its simply just coloring in a coloring book, or doodling in my planner or even writing.  I like to write too its a great outlet.  Most of all my passion is to paint so I make the time to paint when ever I can.  I love sharing my art with others.  It brings me great joy and also joy to them too.

Why I choose landscape

I find beauty outside, its funny when I was a twelve years old my parents were always trying to get me to go outside and do something or help them work in the yard.  I wasn't interested, I was completely content in staying in my room, laying on my bed reading a book or listening to my records.  Its funny how when we are so young we just don't understand what we need to in order to appreciate our surroundings. As I got older I soon discovered the beauty of a sunset or a little bird sitting in a nest in a big beautiful tree surrounded by big green leaves. Now at 50 I can't get enough time to get out and enjoy the outdoors or to sit by a window and just stare at the view before me. I love looking at the sky and the colors that spread across it at the end of the day. Landscape paintings have the power to bring about a positive mood and a feeling of relation.  Landscapes have a way of soothing your mind and refreshing it with inspiration all  the same time.  Sometimes deep hopef

Painting from reference photographs

Image
I sometimes use a reference photo to help start the idea of what I want to paint at the time.  I use it for inspiration and then I change it up to be my own and I do not copy it.  I love browsing online looking at photos of landscape, it helps spark an idea in my mind of what my next painting will be. I do want to try to paint outside and paint what I see while I sit out there.  That will be a whole new experience, I will have to try it soon and let you know how it goes.
